Addressing a seminar on economic cooperation between Syria and the United Arab Emirates, he stressed the need to find a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff and said Iran should give guarantees that its nuclear program is conventional.
Schroeder also welcomed the U.S. approach to talk to Iran.
He said he believed the new package of incentives offered to Iran by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- China, Russia, Britain, France and the United States -– plus Germany, which is known as the 5+1 group, could lead to mutual confidence.
